Juris Zvirbulis (1944) – watercolorist, painter, graphic artist, and book illustrator. He has also created wall paintings for public interiors in Latvia and abroad. Zvirbulis is one of the most prominent representatives of Latvian surrealism, known for his distinctive personal technique in watercolor, painting, and drawing. His work has been influenced by European modernist masters such as Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and Hieronymus Bosch, whose imaginative worlds and symbolic systems resonate in Zvirbulis’s visual language. His artworks are held in several significant collections: the Latvian National Museum of Art, the Artists’ Union of Latvia collection, the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the collection of the Russian Ministry of Culture, the A. Pushkin State Museum, the collection of the Bank of Latvia, and the Nancy and Norton Dodge Collection of Soviet Nonconformist Art at Rutgers University (USA).

In this expressive floral composition, Juris Zvirbulis demonstrates his characteristic color temperament and free painterly manner. The blue, pink, and orange tones create a dynamic flow, while the decorative, richly textured antique frame expands the composition, turning it into a unified visual object. This work is an excellent example of the artist’s ability to merge a classical motif with his distinctive surreal interpretation and unique technical signature.
