August 25, 2026 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of artist Herberts Siliņš (1926-2001). To mark this anniversary, a retrospective exhibition of the artist's works was opened on August 27 at the Birkenfelds Gallery. Herberts Siliņš is one of the most well-known artists of the second half of the 20th century, whose works stand out brightly in the Latvian art scene. For many lovers of the marine theme, acquiring a painting by Herberts Siliņš was a special event and a matter of honor. The artist depicted the sea, fishing boats, everyday life in ports, yacht regattas, and the peaceful everyday life of coastal villages with bright colors and virtuoso brushstrokes. In addition to marinas, he also created abstract compositions, still lifes, and landscapes of cities he had encountered during his travels. It is said that the artist's works were especially appreciated by sailors, fishermen, and ship captains — people with whom the artist had a true and personal connection. Herberts Siliņš was the captain of the yacht “Rainbow”, participated in sailing, and knew how to speak the same language with seafarers. The exhibition features 28 works from fifteen private collections. Some of the works are available for purchase
