Raimonds Staprāns (1926) is an American painter and writer of Latvian origin. The term “abstract realism” is sometimes used to describe Raimonds Staprāns’s painting. Although his works depict real objects such as chairs, kitchen utensils, or oranges, the artist emphasizes the significance of color and structure within the painting. A favored motif of the author is views of the California Bay, portraying boats at the pier or exploring architectural themes. His works are characterized by clarity and conciseness of composition, the brilliance and vividness of color, achieving the specific color nuances characteristic of California light.
His works are included in the collections of the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, the Oakland Museum of California, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Portland Art Museum, as well as the Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga, and in private collections.
