ARTVILNIUS'11

The exhibition ArtVilnius '11 we decided to show artists who have gained a lot of Latvian art lovers and collectors' interest. They are painters - Juris Zvirbulis (Latvia) and Henrikas Natalevičius (Lithuania), photographers - Vaclovas Straukas (Lithuania) and Ulvis Albert (USA).

Presumably, the contradictory circumstances of the soviet time created preconditions of the appearance of the artist Henrikas Natalevičius and  Juris Zvirbulis on the stage of art. The artist’s works contain the feeling of encoded message or even enigma, that is especially charateristic for the creative works of Eastern European rebels- noncomformists.

Vaclovas Straukas takes an especially honoured position in Lithuanian photography. The exhibition will display the photographs of the unique nature phenomena Curonian Spit – the site of the artist’s long-term exploration and inspiration. The sensitiveness and nuanced observation of nature of V. Straukas works closely relate to the aesthetics of creative work of the well-known American photographer Edward Weston and Ansel Adams.

US-based Latvian photographer Ulvis Alberts as a photojournalist worked 15 years in Hollywood. His photographs, including a pop music legends, actors and professional poker players in the late 1970’s, have been published worldwide in magazines, newspapers, books and as posters. In 1981, he published a fine art book Poker Face, a study of big time card players in Las Vegas.
