Poker Face. Nov. 6.- Nov. 28. 2009

The popularity of poker is obvious also in Latvia. Moreover, the game is popular enough to break into conservative world of traditional Latvian art. From November 6 until November 24 Birkenfelds gallery in Reval Hotel Latvija will host POKER FACE exhibition.

For the first time in Latvian art, the game of poker is exhibited in photographs, paintings and art objects. It's clear poker has become not only an international sporting event watched by millions of television viewers worldwide but also is an outlet for artists in many media.

Ulvis Alberts, a photographer born in Riga is showing his black and white images from his book "POKER FACE 2." They highlight the early years of championship poker in the late 1970's when it still was a small circle of players, largely from Texas, who showcased their skills at Binion's Horseshoe casino in downtown Las Vegas.
For the other exhibition participants the game of poker was just a framework offering a whole deck of creative combinations. For Juris Zvirbulis the game of chances is nothing new – already during his early ears he did not miss a chance to make his own card backs. Juta Policija and Mareks Gureckis are also fans of poker, in spite the chess domination in recent years’ art. Famous interior designer Vits Vasilkovskis has also fallen under the poker charms – presenting the celebrities reports from the antique TV-screens.

Simply by a chance or not, from November 9 to 14 Olympic Voodoo Casino organizes poker Anniversary Tour. ALL IN!
